Instagram gives sneak peek into advertising posts

By Justin Lafferty

Advertising will soon come to Instagram. But what will the ads look like?

In a blog post, Instagram showed users what they can expect with ads. Check out the design below.

Instagram said that this specific ad will show up to U.S. users within the next week:

You’ll know a photo or video is an advertisement when you see the “Sponsored” label where the time stamp normally would be. Tap this label to learn more about how advertising works on Instagram.

We want ads to be creative and engaging, so we’re starting with just a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community. If you see an ad that doesn’t interest you, you can tap the “…” below it to hide it and provide feedback about what you didn’t like. This will help us show you more interesting ads in the future.

Our focus with every product we build is to make Instagram a place where people come to connect and be inspired. Building Instagram as a business will help us better serve the global—and ever growing—Instagram community, while maintaining the simplicity you know and love.

Instagram assured users that they still own their photos and that won’t change. Much like Facebook, Instagram users can provide feedback to the site about ads they don’t like or that are irrelevant.

Readers: How do you feel about ads on Instagram?

Free PDF Readers to Use as Altnatives to Adobe Reader

Free PDF Readers to Use as Altnatives to Adobe Reader

I have already talked about how to create a PDF (Portable Document Format) files so it is only fair that I talk about Free PDF Readers.  As you probably already know Adobe PDF Reader is universally known and preloaded on most computers.  However, I thought I would go in search of alternatives and I found two.  I am sure that there are more, but the following caught my eye.  Before continuing I have to let it be know that I love Adobe products.  Sometimes however, it is nice to have alternatives.

The first free pdf reader alternative that I found was Sumatra PDF Reader.  It is lightweight and not as robust as the Adobe Reader but certainly works and a valid alternative.  This product got 4 out of 5 stars at cnet.com.

You can read more about the product here.

I promised you two alternatives to the famous Adobe Reader so let me now introduce Foxit Reader.  Foxit is fast, lightweight and feature rich.  You can both read about Foxit and download it here.

Summary of Free PDF Readers

PDF Readers are important to your Internet Marketing efforts as many products have PDF files included.  Aside from that you will also find that your customers may need your help in this area so having an understanding of such things helps you help your customers now or inthe future.

You might even offer up the download page to one of the above mentioned readers as a part of your product efforts.  I know that over the years I have found that being proactive with my customer have helped to reduce back in work in the area of customer support.  Customer support is one of those well deserved topics that demands its own post.

Meantime, I hope you find the Free PDF Reader post helpful.

Until next time.

Creating Zip Files and How to Open Zip Files

Continuing on with our drive for understanding the technical elements of Internet Marketing I want to talk about creating a zip file and how to open zip files.

When someone says they zipped a file they have actually utilized a zip software utility to compress the file or files to reduce the overall size.  Reducing the file(s) size is a temporary state.  The files contained within a zip file will be returned to their original size upon unzipping the file.

Compressing a file or files does not harm the original files in any way.   By making the file size smaller you are making it more portable and easier to share.   For example compressing a file (zipping the file) makes it easier on those that have limited bandwidth to download or for that matter uploading a file to a server.

Here are some Free windows software to open and/or create zip files:

Each software operates a little differently but follows the same basic principles of creating and/or opening a zip file.

Step out of your fear, install the software and create your first zip file.  This is a huge step toward making your online business profitable.

Creating PDF

Let’s take all the mystery out of creating a PDF (Portable Document Format) file.  PDF is a document format that originated from the concept of PostScript.  From that concept, Adobe created the PDF format.  PDF is an industrial standard format for electronic document sharing and storage.

PDF files can be viewed with a free Adobe Reader which can be downloaded from:  http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.   Once the Adobe Reader had been installed it will automatically open a .pdf file once the .pdf file is clicked on.

Adobe offers an incredible software entitled Acrobat.  Here is the link to learn more about the product http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html?promoid=JOLIR.   Acrobat is full featured product that offers an array of features to not only create a PDF file but to enhance it. The only pitfall from this author’s point of view is the price of the product.  Nonetheless, it is well worth the asking price.

If you are serious about becoming an Internet Marketer, Acrobat will pay for itself many times over.  However, for those who are just getting started but still need to create PDF files there are a multitude of low to no cost third party software to help you out.  If you compare features they are not as robust but less expensive, some even for free.

The following are four alternatives for you to consider.  However you should know that with a quick search on the Internet you can find much more to choose from.

  1. doPDF – http://download.cnet.com/doPDF-Free-PDF-Converter/3000-18497_4-10648880.html?part=dl-114262&subj=dl&tag=button. I used the CNET download link as the link on doPDF.com appears to have a virus.  This software is FREE.
  2. CutePDF Pro – http://www.cutepdf.com/. This software is $49.95.
  3. PdfCreator – http://www.pdfforge.org/.  This software is FREE.
  4. PDFComplete – http://www.pdfcomplete.com. This software is $49.

I took the time to install the first one on the list, doPDF.  I found it easy to install (very user friendly) and within a few minutes I had created a .pdf file.

doPDF has a set of easy to follow installation instructions.  doPDF installs as a print driver and once installed you will see a new printer to select which is “doPDF v7.”

Utilize a word processing program such as Microsoft Word or a free alternative of Word that can be found at: http://www.openoffice.org/ you can create your document.

Once your document is created, select “print” and then select the doPDF v7 printer that is now in the drop down printer menu then print.  This will create a .pdf document for you.

HELP! I Am Being Held Hostage by Technology

Have you ever come to a screeching halt because you were being held hostage by technology?

Many folks have complained about trying to perform a technical task for their Internet business and from lack of understanding how to accomplish a task they stopped dead in their tracks.  Some get past the roadblock and others just simply quit. Technology and lack of understanding is probably the highest reason for IM (Internet Marketing) failure.

It is terrible feeling to have your success halted when you hear a whirling sound in your ears as others speed pass by you.

Over the years I have been at the crossroads where having just a quick question answered would have reduced my anxiety and gotten me to the next leg of my journey.

Far too many folks encounter technical roadblocks and have nowhere to turn to get their answers.  Some even with costly coaching find themselves in this situation as well.

One of the big problems is that Internet Marketer’s as a whole have effective sales copy to land the sale but fall short in supporting their own how-to products.  I don’t think anyone creates a problem on purpose but that technology is deemed hard to learn.

Creating a good product is essential but having exceptional customer support in place is a necessity.  Everyone has their own personal information filters and how they interrupt what they read, hear or view.

A great example of this is a game you have probably played as a child.  The game I am talking about is where you all line up and the first person in the line whispers something in the second person’s ear and you go down the line the same way.  By the time you get to the last person, he or she says out loud what they have been told and it is dramatically different from what the first person had said.   You see, what was initially said changed at the end because we each hear something a little different.

Therefore, as a Marketer you have to be prepared to offer additional help.

There is nothing about starting or running an Internet Marketing business that you can’t be taught.  The big question is teaching so everyone can learn.

I am starting this blog to share some technical “how-to” knowledge in hopes that it helps someone.
